"NEW" STEM - The CREST Awards by the British Science Association
The CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people, providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 5-to-19-year-olds.
CREST is a UK nationally recognized scheme for student-led project work in the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths). Participant has to finish all the set challenges (experiments) and submit them to the BSA for approval, then the BSA will issue a certificate and a badge to him/her.
Abacus Mental Arithmetic and Maths Activities Curriculum:
Abacus Mental Arithmetic (AMA) - Designed to train students in mental calculations, and improve their number sense, determination, concentration and self-confidence.
Maths Activities (MA) - Use different mathematical teaching aids and teach the students to apply them to understand the basic concepts around specific topics. They are also, helping the students to develop their logical thinking ability through participation in the Olympian Maths program which teaches them skills to solve mathematical word problems.
Age: 3 or above
Option 1: AMA + MA Course
Duration: 1.5 hours per week
Option 2: MA Course
Duration: 1 hour per week

A device to teach student to understand the unit, tens and hundreds of numbers.

Students are using Lego to construct and understand 3D shape

Student can use a clock and rotate the hands to understand time.


Student is using different 2D shapes to understand geometry and its combination.








Abacus Mental Arithmetic Levels
Foundation Level (Preparing those could not write and recognize numbers)
Suitable for: 3 + yr old
Contents: Writing numbers, understanding numbers, learning the basic Abacus skills and simple addition & subtraction.
Beginner I Level (for those who can write and recognize numbers)
Suitable for: 4.5 + yr old or those have completed the Foundation Level
Contents: Learning basic Abacus skills, basic addition & subtraction and the compliment of 5.
Beginner II Level
Suitable for: Those have completed Beginner I Level or equivalent
Contents: Basic Mental (I) and Compliment of 10 (I)
Intermediate I Level
Suitable for: Those have completed Beginner II Level or equivalent
Contents: Basic Mental (II) and Compliment of 10 (II)
Intermediate II Level
Suitable for: Those have completed Intermediate I Level or equivalent
Contents: Advance Compliment of 10 Addition and Subtraction
Advance I Level
Suitable for: Those have completed Intermediate II Level or equivalent
Contents: Multiplication & Division (I)
Advance II Level
Suitable for: Those have completed Advance I Level or equivalent
Contents: Multiplication & Division (II)

Additional lessons may need in order to prepare individual student to participate in the World competition each year.
